Introduction
This post focuses on two themes that unite all Muslims: Spiritual Enlightenment and Returning to God. These can be points of dialogue between different creeds within the Muslim Ummah.
This post has two parts:
- Ayat from Surah Ibrahim and Its commentary; and
- Ayats from Surah Al-Fajr and their commentaries;
1. Ayat from Surah Ibrahim and Its Commentary
Ayat 14:1
This ayat reads as follows:
Alif,1145 Lam, Ra, (A, L, R.) A Book (the Quran) (We) sent it down unto thee
Holy Quran Ayat 14:1
(O’ Our Apostle Muhammad) that thou mayst lead men from darkness into the light, by their Lord‘s permission, unto the way of the Mighty, the (Most) Praised
One .
Note to Ayat 14.1
Here is the note for the above ayat from S. V. Mir Ahmed Ali’s translation of the Holy Quran:
Vr. 1. (1135) ‘Anzalnahu-ilaik‘, i.e., We have sent it unto thee—indicates that the Holy Quran came down from the High a Complete Book form and was not edited or compiled here on earth by anyone.
Footnote 1135 S. V. Mir Ahmed Ali, p.813
The object of the revelation of the Book is given to be, to take out mankind from the darkness of ignorance and false beliefs into the correct knowledge about the truth about God, the Creator Lord of the Universe and the relation of the creation to Him. The guidance is meant for mankind as a whole and not to any community or nation. This fact is also given out in 4:79 and 34:28; 17:105; 33:48, 7:158
‘Zulumat‘ the plural of ‘Zulmat‘, i.e., darkness, is used to mean the intensity or various kinds of ignorance or false beliefs.
2. Ayats from Surah Al-Fajr and Their commentaries;
Ayats 89:27-30
These ayats read as follows:
(It will be said to some):3024 “O’ tranquilized soul at (complete) rest! (89:27)
Holy Quran Ayat 14:1
“Return3025 thou unto they Lord! well-pleased (with Him) (and) His being well pleased with thee.” (89:28)
“Thus3026 enter thou amidst My *Servants.” (89:29)
“Thus3027 enter thou into My Garden” (89:30)
Side Note to Ayat 89:29
The term ‘Servants’ in ayat 89:29 is defined as follows:
*Those exclusively submitted themselves to God’s service, unmindful of anything else beside them and His pleasure.
Notes to Ayats 89-27-29
Here are the footnotes for the above ayats from S. V. Mir Ahmed Ali’s translation of the Holy Quran:
Vr. 27. (3024) The human soul passes through states or stages. The state in which the soul seeks fulfillment of his lower desire crossing the limits prescribed by God’s laws is called ‘Amurra‘ (12:53) and the soul which reproaches against the rebellious intentions is called ‘La wama‘ (75:2). And the soul which has conquered all desires and surrendered itself to the Lord is called ‘Mutamainnah‘ the satisfied one, i.e., at rest in peace and perfect harmony with the Divine will, triumphed over every kind of passion, desire, sorrow, pain, disappointment, for the sake of any enjoyment of this life getting totally mindful of pleasing the Lord and none else. This is the higher stage of spiritual progress the human soul in this world achieves, must strive for.
Footnotes 3024-3026 S. V. Mir Ahmed Ali, p.1855
Vr. 28. (3025) God’s devotee—Once, one becomes God’s devotee—he gets within him the divine attributes reflected and the one who reaches this stage of spiritual development, he gets mindful only of the Lord and not of anybody or anything else, and he does not aspire for any enjoyment even in heaven, except the pleasure of the Lord. This is the stage of Holy Prophet and his Ahlul-Bait.
Vr. 29. (3026) God’s heaven—is God’s pleasure, i.e., the soul is admitted to God’s pleasure—thereafter divinity gets reflected in it.
